Communication Ministry of the
Russian Federation has restored to the budget 2.4 billion roubles allocated for the project of new generation of passport and visa documents system. It was announced that the main reason of the transaction was lack of confidence in expediency of the planed expenses. One more barrier was late transfer of scheduled funds – Communication Ministry had received this money only in the 3rd quarter 2008, and it was absolutely impossible to fulfill this part of planned contract till the end of current year.
Implementation of more than 600 objects of PVD (Passport and Visa Documents) system were planned by the end of 2008, this infrastructure should guarantee manufacturing up to 5 million electronic passports a year. Implementation of new generation passport and visa documents was planned in Russia in 2009.
