According to the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as of August, 1, 2009, Kazakhstan banks has issued 7.115 million cards, and the number of cardholders has totaled 6.659 million. It’s 8.2 percent more than in the same period of 2008 by both indicators. Cards of the international payment systems are the most widespread: their share is 97.9 percent (as of August, 1, 2008, it was 96.8 percent).
In July, 2009, all transactions with use of payment cards, issued by Kazakhstan banks, have totaled 234 billion tenge, or $1.5 billion (and it’s 15.7 percent more than in July, 2008).
