On November 11, the State Duma of the Russian Federation has approved in the first reading the bill on 10-year-old period of validity of electronic passports. At the same time, the state duty for their issue will increase from 1’000 to 2’000 roubles.
According to First Deputy Chairman of the Edinaya Rossia (United Russia) fraction in the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vladimir Pekhtin, new passports will be issued from January 15, 2010.
