According to the Head of Visa and Registration Department of Russian Federal Migration Service (FMS) Alexander Aksenov, in 2009 all FMS divisions have issued about 4.5 million passports, it is approximately by 16% less, than a year ago.
At the same time, in 2009, the volume of old style passports has considerably decreased. The number of new style (biometric) passports issued has grown by 2.5 times, in comparison with 2008, and has totaled about 3 million ones.
