According to the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus (NBRB), in the fourth quarter of 2009 in Belarus the total amount of individual persons’ card operations increased by 20.7% as against of the similar period of 2008, up to 11,714 billion Belarus roubles ($3.9 billion).
Particularly, the volume of cash withdrawing transactions increased in the fourth quarter of 2009 by 16% up to 10,180 billion Belarus roubles ($3.4 billion). The volume of payments for goods and services as well as other non–cash transactions increased by 64.9% up to 1,534 billion Belarus roubles ($521 million).
The number of cards in circulation within 2009 grew by 27.4% up to 7.749 million (under the NBRB’s forecast, in 2010 the number of cards issued should be increased up to 7.5 million).
