The Russian Government has approved amendments to the Article 187 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, Anatoly Aksakov, Deputy of the State Duma and President of the Association of Regional banks of Russia, brought for consideration to the Lower House of the Parliament. The amendments, experts of the Association "Russia" prepared, provide the criminal liability for manufacturing and selling counterfeit payment cards.
The necessity of changing the existing legislation is caused by the growth of crimes in the sphere of payment cards, observed recently in Russia.
According to President of the Association of Regional Banks of Russia, the bill will provide worthy protection for citizens who actively use bank cards to pay for goods and services. “At the same time we also can protect credit organizations, issuing payment cards. After all swindlers hurt not only a person, but also the image of the issuer of the forged card”, said Anatoly Aksakov. He thinks, that an adequate punishment will hold back the growth of crimes in the payment cards market, and will increase availability of such financial services.
