The Russian Government has approved the amendments to the Article 187 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, under which swindlers manufacturing and using counterfeit cards, will be imprisoned for 2 – 8 years with the penalty from 100,000 to 1 million roubles depending on the size of the caused damage. Such legislation toughening will protect not only card holders, but also bank–issuers.
To provide the appropriate protection for citizens and payment card market players the bill offers to put all crimes related to payment documents and payment cards in different articles of the special part of the Criminal Code, and also to specify the crime subject.
