Bank of Russia prepared and published at the official web-site the “Review of the Russian Payment Cards market” for 2009.
According to this review there was still a positive dynamics at the Russian payment cards market in 2009, both in issuing and in acquiring areas. The number of cashless transactions made using payment cards was growing. From 2001 to 2009 the volume of cashless transactions made using payment cards in Russia to the GDP ratio increased from 0.4% to 2.5%. The share of these transactions in retail sales, catering sales and sales of paid services rendered to the population also increased from 0.9% to 3.8%.
In 2009 the number of the issued payment cards grew by 5.7%, the number and the volume of transactions grew by 17.3% and 7.3% respectively.
