According to Alexander Turbanov, Director General of Deposit Insurance Agency (DIA), DIA has allocated 71 billion rubles for readjustment of Russian problem banks. 6.4 billion rubles out of the above sum are a part of the 200 billion rubles allocated to DIA from the federal budget for expansion of its functions (alongside with the deposit insurance function DIA got the powers for readjustment of the problem banks). The money came to DIA account at the end of November, 2008.

Credit Card Defaults Will Continue to Grow in the USA

According to TransUnion.com agency, in the third quarter of 2008, the volume of debts on credit cards in the USA grew by 6 % in comparison with 2007, and by 1.6 % in comparison with the second quarter of 2008, and on average amounted to 5 710 US dollars. A nonpayment coefficient on at least one card account increased by 5.8 % in annual terms. In the third quarter the level of non-payments grew by 1.1 % compared with the same period of 2007 and by 4.8 % in comparison with the previous period.

Cellular Signal Suppressors in Japanese ATMs

Only 30 Russian Banks will Survive 2009 without Serious Problems

According to the analytical report «Russian banks: love weakens every day», made by Bank «Renaissance Capital», only 30 largest banks of the Russian Federation will avoid serious problems in 2009, while for the others «merge and absorption will be vital». Experts from «Renaissance Capital», believe that with account of the recalled licenses the number of credit and financial establishments in Russia can be reduced by 200-250 banks; at that, in 2009, only 5 state banks will grow at advanced rates, and 25 other biggest banks will demonstrate growth of their assets at an average market level.

Ministry of Finance and NBU Elaborate a Plan on Prevention of Credit Losses

A high risk of credit losses has forced the National Bank of Ukraine, the Ministry of Finance and the country’s banks to elaborate a plan of joint actions for re-structuring of the borrowers’ debts. If the participants of the credit market agree with the terms of a corresponding memorandum, NBU will be able to lower the capital adequacy norm, while the Ministry of Finance will provide tax rebates to those banks, which sign the memorandum.

Outflow from the Russian Banks Lessens

In the period of November, 1- 25, 2008, the net outflow of deposits from the Russian banking system lessened, and did not exceed 0.5 %. The parameter appeared to be considerably less than in October, when the outflow from the domestic credit and financial establishments was in the country on average equal to 6 % of private persons’ deposits, or 300-350 billion rubles. Citizens withdrew from their accounts mostly rubles and because of fears of a possible devaluation of the national currency, converted them into dollars and euros. Deposit Insurance Agency(DIA) begins to pay insurance compensations to the depositors of MSB Bank, Mira-Bank and Econatsbank.
