NXP will supply chips for electronic passports of the second generation

In the beginning of November, 2007, NXP Semiconductors announced its plans to supply SmartMX, state-of-the-art chips, to Germany. SmartMX chips will provide the basis for ePassport, the first-ever project of electronic passports of the second generation, containing digital image of owner’s two fingerprints.
