On March, 3, 2009, Gala Night devoted to 40th anniversary of Russian payment card industry (40th anniversary of the first banking cards’ appearance in the
USSR and then in
Russia) was held in President Hotel Moscow.
About 300 guests came to the event, including industry veterans and the most remarkable representatives of modern card business. Representatives of the Russian State Duma, Central Bank of the Russian Federation, IPS: American Express, Diners Club International, MasterCard Worldwide and Visa Inc., Russian payment systems: the United Russian Payment System (URPS) and Golden Crown, top-managers of the largest Russian retail banks, including Sberbank of Russia, VTB, Gazprombank, Rosbank, URALSIB Bank and Russian Standard Bank, leading vendors and banking hardware and software suppliers (Diebold, INPAS, LANIT, ARCOM, BPC, Compass Plus, Ingenico, Europeum, etc.), card producers (Rozan, Gemalto, SITRONICS Smart Technology, Orga Zelenograd, Oy Esko Otava), etc. visited Gala Night.
During the event exhibition “Banking cards in Russia. How it was” and card market veterans’ awarding were organized. Within the framework of Gala Night presentation of two-volume book “History of banking cards in Russia. Attestations of eyewitnesses” written by Oleg Nikulshin was held.
