According to research of Statbanker.ru, an agency on financial statistics, in 2009 Russian banks have got $2 billion of revenue on credit cards and it’s by $200 million dollars less than in 2008.
According to the data of the research, the volume of credit card payments for goods and services as well as cash withdrawal in АТМs for 2009 has totaled $14.5 billion, it’s by 20% less, than in 2008. Following the results for 2009 the total debt on credit cards in Russia has reached $5.2 billion, as against of $5.4 billion in 2008.
Analysts believe, that in 2009 the main goal of all private banks was to keep the share of the market, because, in crisis some state banks, such as Sberbank of Russia and VTB24, considerably expanded their positions in the market of credit cards.
So, the share of credit cards in VTB24 bank’s aggregate portfolio of debts has grown from 7.3% in 2008 to 13.2% in 2009. And the portfolio of credits on cards has grown from 12 billion roubles as of the end of 2008 to 20.5 billion roubles in 2009.
Sberbank of Russia has demonstrated quite a good growth on credit cards as well. As Igor Lipanov, Head of Retail Payment Products Department of Sberbank of Russia, said, “the current year for the bank will be a breakthrough: from the spring of 2010 Sberbank will start offering credit cards in the open market”.
