Nabiullina reappointed head of Russia’s Central Bank for another five years

The State Duma of the Russian Federation appointed Elvira Nabiullina Governor of the Bank of Russia, with her term of office extended for another five years.

Nabiullina has headed Russia’s Central Bank since June 2013. In 2017, her powers were extended for five years in accordance with the updated version of the law “On the Central Bank”.

On March 18, 2022, President Vladimir Putin recommended Elvira Nabiullina for appointment as the Governor of the Bank of Russia to the State Duma. The vote was preceded by reviewing a report of the Central Bank for 2021, which was initiated by State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin.

During the voting, Elvira Nabiullina was supported by the majority of deputies. The reappointment of the head of the Central Bank was also supported by the United Russia party. Thus, the State Duma extended her powers for another five-year term with its countdown to start on June 24, 2022.
