Since March 2, the export of foreign currency in cash from Russia in the amount exceeding 10 thousand dollars is prohibited. The respective decree on “additional temporary economic measures to ensure the financial stability of Russia” was signed by President Vladimir Putin. The effective period of the restrictions has not been specified. The measures are caused by “unfriendly actions contradicting the international law” undertaken by the United States and other countries that imposed sanctions on Russia.”

Also, in addition to the ban on the export of foreign currency, Russian residents are now obliged to observe a “special procedure” when concluding ruble transactions involving securities, real estate and loans with foreign persons associated with “unfriendly” countries. This will now require permission from the government's Foreign Investment Control Commission.

The decree was signed “in connection with the unfriendly and contrary to international law actions” of the United States and “adjoining” countries and organizations, which are related to imposing sanctions against Russians and Russian companies, the document says.
