Belarus and Russia opt out of dollar in payments for energy supplies

(no votes)

Belarus and Russia have decided to stop pegging payments for energy resources to the dollar, the BelTA news agency reports. Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko told the journalists about it on Monday after negotiations with head of the Russian government Mikhail Mishustin in Moscow.

“We have made the decision to ditch the dollar in all our payments for energy supplies. This is an absolutely natural solution. Due to well-known circumstances, pegging to some third currency makes no sense anymore,” said Roman Golovchenko.

The prime minister also added that Minsk and Moscow had long been thinking over ditching the dollar in payments for energy supplies. The current geopolitical situation facilitated this step, he said.

Roman Golovchenko noted that Russia will now be paid for the energy resources in Russian rubles.
