Kazakhstan banned exports of cash foreign currency in excess of $10,000

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree banning the export of foreign currency in excess of $10,000 worth and gold bars.

“In order to protect national interests and ensure financial stability, I hereby resolve to prohibit the export from the Republic of Kazakhstan of cash foreign currency and (or) monetary instruments in foreign currency in an amount exceeding the equivalent of 10 thousand dollars and calculated at the rate of the National Bank as of the date of export,” the document reads.

The ban also applies to the export of refined gold bars and gold and silver investment coins issued by the National Bank, as well as refined gold in excess of 100 grams.

The press service of the National Bank noted that such measures will ensure control over the excessive export of foreign currency and the safety of the reserves of the National Bank, as well as the diversification of savings instruments.
