Demand for Mir cards in Russia continues to grow. In April, the number of Russian payment system cards issued and delivered to VTB customers increased by a quarter compared to last year. The total volume of Mir cards issued by VTB will reach 13 million in April.

Since early April, VTB customers have received over 160,000 national cards, which is 24% more compared to the same period last year. With 52,000 digital cards issued by the bank in three weeks, such products account for a third of the volume of newly issued cards, i.e. over six times more than in April 2021.

The transactional activity of VTB Mir cardholders has also intensified. Over the past month, customers have spent almost 50 billion rubles to pay for their purchases using the national cards. Thus, the card transaction value increased by 68%.

“The peak of demand for Mir cards came in March, when the largest international payment systems left Russia. Virtual national cards were especially popular: in Q1, they accounted for 70% of the total volume of digital products in issue. But despite the fact that we already met the record-high demand for Mir cards in March, April still sees a persistent interest in them. According to our estimates, the total volume of Mir cards issued by VTB will exceed 13 million by the end of April. So, most of the bank's clients use national cards, and interest in them will keep growing,” said Ksenia Andreeva, head of Debit Cards and Accounts at VTB.
