Data leak from Russia’s central bank proved to be fake based on open sources

A message with links to download files was posted on the Anonymous Twitter account.

Anonymous claimed earlier that they had hacked the Bank of Russia. They allegedly downloaded 20 GB of documents and, on March 25, 2022 published two archives of 19.47 GB and 1.45 GB. The first archive includes PDF files with audit reports dating back to 2010-2016 and open data on licenses and beneficiaries.

Such kind of information is published openly either on the websites of banks or on the website of the central bank and does not pose any threat to the Russian financial system, as the hackers asserted earlier. The second archive contains XLS files, which are also available on the regulator's website in the open format and can be downloaded by any unauthorized user.
