Last week, Sber held an exercise simulating the disconnection of the bank's IT infrastructure from the support of foreign software suppliers such as Microsoft, Oracle, Intel, Nvidia, VMware and SAP. This happened against the background of reports about possible sanctions from U.S. manufacturers threatening the supplies of new electronics to Russia and the support for existing ones.

According to a source in Kommersant, Sber is planning a large-scale purchase of servers and data storage systems. It is also reported that the Russian authorities are considering various scenarios in the event of limitation of the supply of microelectronics and disconnection of the country's enterprises from the support of foreign software.

Sber, VTB, Gazprombank, Promsvyazbank and Alfa Bank did not respond to questions about the exercises. Russian SAP's office said it had no information about the exercise.

Sber has already shown interest in changing its IT infrastructure to make it less dependent on American companies. According to Kommersant, at the end of October, the bank's top managers already held a meeting with the heads of electronics developers and IT integrators to discuss the prospects for migrating to Russian-made computing equipment.
